“Evolved” a self-portrait photograph by PhenomenaLewis photographed in her bedroom in March of 2020 showing PhenomenaLewis,

This self-portrait photograph, Evolved, was my first photograph in color and to me it was the start of a new era in my art career. I was evolving from Black and white and monochromatic dark toned artworks to colorful and vibrant art.
It was a shift in my mentality as well where at first, I was creating art to make people uncomfortable, now I want to make people feel comfortable and soft, same with myself.
It's a new era of healing for me and my art and it started with this self-portrait right here.

“Virgin” a self-portrait photograph by PhenomenaLewis photographed in her bedroom in March of 2020. This photograph shows PhenomenaLewis, a dark-skinned Black woman staring directly at the camera with dark skin wrapped in long baby blue fabric wearing bright magenta (Pink) gloves forming an upside-down triangle with her hands over her belly.

When I made this photograph, I wanted it to be minimal in color and subject.
This was at the beginning of my exploration of self-portraiture.

“Secure” a self-portrait photograph by PhenomenaLewis, photographed in her bedroom in March 2020 and it shows PhenomenaLewis, a dark-skinned Black woman with dark black and white skin with only eyes showing staring straight forward under layers of different colored and patterned scarves. When I made this self-portrait photograph, I was still living in Brooklyn, like all of my other self-portrait photographs, this was taken in my bedroom and I wanted to do a performance where I would cover my whole head with scarves as a symbolism of feeling safe, feeling secure and I came out with this photograph.

"Empyrean" a self-portrait photograph by PhenomenaLewis photographed in her bedroom in May of 2020 and it shows PhenomenaLewis, a dark-skinned Black woman with exaggerated dark skin with and orange turban and lipstick against a star filled night sky with a moon center placed above her head.

"Parallel" a self-portrait photograph by PhenomenaLewis, photographed in her bedroom in June of 2020. This photograph shows PhenomenaLewis, a dark-skinned Black woman in a long velvet dress with a colorful patterned turban holding a white chain. This self-portrait photograph by PhenomenaLewis was made in the heat of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020 and this image is to represent the tiredness of it all and the need to be free from racism.

"Lethal" a Black and white self-portrait photograph by PhenomenaLewis photographed in her bedroom in July of 2020 shows PhenomenaLewis, a dark-skinned Black woman with slightly exaggerated dark skin with only her eyes and curly Black hair showing in the composition.

"Same As Yesterday" a self-portrait photograph by PhenomenaLewis photographed in her bedroom in November of 2020 shows PhenomenaLewis, a dark-skinned Black woman with exaggerated dark skin wearing all Black with a contrasting orange headwrap against a shadowy blue sky through an opened window.
