ABOUT
Lewis Derogene (b. 1997), artistically known as PhenomenaLewis, is a multimedia artist based in Connecticut, USA. Her artistic journey was influenced by her upbringing in a family filled with creatives. From a young age, she was interested in the arts, which she pursued and embraced.
Lewis is currently pursuing an MA in Fashion Art Direction at the Academy of Art University. In 2019, she graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a BFA in Fine Arts. In 2022, she completed a four-week art residency at Château Orquevaux in France, where she donated a seven-foot-long drawing she created during that time to their permanent collection.
Lewis was one of Life Framer’s award winners for their March 2024 Color Competition, judged by Thomas Jackson. She is also featured in philosopher, curator, and art critic Giorgio Bonomi’s photography book Il Corpo Solitario IV (The Solitary Body, Issue 4). Her work has been featured in multiple publications, including Westport Lifestyle for their 2024 “Women of Westport” article, and she has been interviewed and featured in Populist Magazine, among others.
The art that Lewis creates explores themes of identity, the power of storytelling, and the beauty in imperfection—using photography, sculpture, and digital media to create compelling visual narratives. Her goal is to direct high-fashion editorials and publish a magazine highlighting art and culture. She aspires to own a gallery that creates opportunities for young creatives in the Black community to grow and thrive—offering a free platform where they can learn about being an artist and how to navigate the art scene.
