Stereotypes

Yes

I am an angry black woman...

For being considered less valuable than my worth

And cast aside as something my ancestors would consider disgraceful

Gold is still gold no matter how you mold it

Yes

I am a loud black woman...

Because with the many voices that we have tried to speak

For you to still not listen

I am bound to grab your attention

Yes

I am a resilient black woman…

These back bones of mine do carry my ancestors

And future generations to come

With hips of steel and shoulders of bronze

Our men can cry on for I am their foundation

But these bones of mine need support

Yes

I am a stubborn black woman...

You seem to think that I am just another dumb nigga

“No sah sah massah”

I will not allow you to overpower me

No way

I am not budging

I will take up space

I am now at the top

Along with you

Yes

I am a beautiful black woman...

This mane on my head is my hair

But no

My hair is not a petting zoo

For your, God only knows where they have been, hands to grope

It is my crown

Respect it

Yes

I am a magical black woman...

My skin is as dark as the midnight sky

But no

My skin is not a joke to the night

Just for the sun to shine on and for you to try and imitate

While marketplaces shove bleach in my face

It is the sun’s embrace

No

My existence is not a commodity

No

My life is not for your entertainment

No

My body is not a sexual construct

No

My hands are not cleaning tools for your mess

No

My speech is not a factor of impersonation of “whiteness”

No

My sisters are not tools of uplifting your self-esteem

No

My soul is not a dumpster for your pollution

No

So leave

No

So leave

No

So leave

Leave with your stereotypes

And your ignorant eyes

And egotistic minds

And prejudiced spirit

As you can see

These stereotypes do not define me

I am far greater than that
